Blondies with Chocolate Chips, Pecans and Cranberries

Blondies with Chocolate Chips, Pecans & Cranberries

Tonight is about combining two of my favorite things in life, Blondie Bars and “The Voice”. I am obsessed with NBC’s singing competition show “The Voice”. I love the concept, the talent and most of all the judges. It’s one of my guilty pleasures you could say.

My friend Cindy had a contact at NBC, and was able to get us in to last night’s show.  I have to say it’s extremely fascinating to see how a live show works. It really looks nothing like the final product you see on television. Her contact was nice enough to give a bunch of old broads a thrill, and let’s us sit in the judges chairs…the big, red ones that turn around when they hear an amazing voice. I’m pretending I’m Shakira.  Oh c’mon let me have some fun!

Anyway, tonight I’ve invited those same girls over to my house to watch “The Voice” finale. And for the finale you’ve gotta have treats, right. Which leads us to my other latest obsession;  Blondies with Chocolate Chips, Pecans and Cranberries. What! You’re rolling your eyes at the addition of cranberries. You have to trust me on this. The cranberries add that little bit of tartness that combines perfectly with the crunch of the pecans and the richness of the chocolate chips. I guarantee, these will become your latest obsession too.

Mama’s Tips:

When I bake “bar cookies”, like brownies or blondies, I like to line the pan with parchment.  I always have a couple rolls on hand so I’m never out of it. This way I can just lift the baked bars right out of the pan without anything sticking to it. It makes cutting the bars into cleanly cut squares so easy and professional looking.

  1. These blondies look like they are the perfect texture! And way cool that you got to see The Voice live! I bet that was an amazing experience 🙂

  2. Sheryl, I’m also obsessed with The Voice! You look fabulous in Shakira’s red chair. Those blondies sound perfect for tonight’s finale-watching party! 🙂

    1. Sheryl, the final three are all so good, I can’t decide which one is my favorite! I’ll be happy for whoever wins and feel sure that they’ll all have bright futures in the music biz.

    1. I like to do the same thing with chocolate chip cookies. I’ll throw in whatever I have lying around in the pantry. They just taste better that way!

  4. Why hello! I’m stopping over from Nance’s blog–first off, thank you for your amazingly kind comment on my guest post. You’re so sweet! I love stopping by other folks’ blogs to share the blog love, so I thought I’d drop by and let my jaw hang over these gorgeous, crackly-topped blondies. Love the mix-ins, and I’m definitely craving a good blondie after all that brownie goodness. Glad you found my writing through Nance, have a fantastic week!

  5. This is one of my favorite combinations in a cookie. I can only imagine how delicious it is in a a warm chewy blondie! YUM That’s fun that you got to go see The Voice. I went to a taping of Idol in the early years. It’s amazing how much better they sound live! Cheers

  6. Hi Sheryl,

I am not a big sweet eater but I do love cranberries in my recipes. If you ever shop at Trader Joe’s you must buy the Orange Flavored Cranberries:) They are sooo goood! I voted for Christina but I am glad Josh won:)

  7. Sheryl, I LOVE that photo of you in the big red chair. First of all, don’t call yourself an old broad because you most definitely are not! You look fabulous. What a fun experience you had! I would never throw a side eye at cranberries. I love baking with them! Your blondies look delicious – perfect for enjoying the show with friends. I was obsessed with the Voice for the first few seasons but I haven’t watched in a while. I hope they picked a worthy winner this year!

  8. Sharyl your blondes look perfect! I hope you had an amazing night looking at the show end eating your great small cakes! The mix chocolate, pecans and cranberries is great! thanks for sharing!

  9. Mrs. W has a cookie recipe similar to your lovely blondies, and the cranberry is definitely a team player. Moreover, you’re right about The Voice judges―their mentoring is some of the best on reality TV. “Old broad” or not, Sheryl, you rocked the red chair. What a fun evening!

  10. You look great in red, Sheryl! 🙂 How exciting to get a special tour of a favorite show taping! It is fascinating how much goes on behind the scenes while we at home are watching! The blondies look great too. I never thought of adding dried fruit to blondies. Now that I see yours, its a natural! White chocolate and milk/dark chocolate taste so good with cranberries. I need to go bake them!

  11. Hi Sandra, I’ve made a million different Blondie recipes, some come out like cake, some gooey like fudge, and others like brownie consistency. I like them similar to a brownie. These were like a brownie, but had a little bit of a gooey inside. They were yummy!
